What Does Prayer Look Like?

What does prayer look like? Think about that for a moment. I am not asking what it sounds like. Although, that would be an equally interesting question to answer. I want you to think about what prayer looks like? Have you got an image in your mind?

Let me take a stab at some possible answers.

· Persons praying most of the time have their eyes closed.

· Persons praying often have their hands clasped together in front of them.

· Persons praying lift their hands in the air.

· Persons praying prostrate themselves on the ground.

· Persons praying do so in private.

· Persons praying are somber.

· Persons praying are excited.

· Persons praying are walking.

· Persons praying are working.

· Persons praying are listening to meditative music.

· Persons praying are listening to praise music.

I am sure the list could go on. Now my question for you is this. Which of these ways is the correct way to pray? I’d suggest that all of them are correct. I don’t think that we can pigeon hole God into any one way of communication. If prayer is our attempt to get in touch with God, then I think that just as each of us is wonderfully and uniquely made—then each of us communicates with God in unique ways.

Prayer is that attempt on our part to make a connection with God. I don’t care how you seek to make that connection. What I really care about is that you do try to make that connection. So, what do you look like when you pray? Maybe you should try to find a new way just to see if it livens up your prayer life. Then again, if your way is working, there’s no need to fix what isn’t broken.
